A red cocktail dress is perhaps the very picture of publicity, while a bathtub is most private and personal, and folded within the realms of home and personal comfort. Cocktail dresses are meant to be seen, red ones certainly so, and in our bathtubs we hide and step away from the world with ourselves, only the water to soothe us. The juxtaposition of the two clashing worlds is what makes this image striking, the public face meeting he private face in a dramatically drenched scene. The bright red cocktail dress and the bright red lips on a made up face, usually meant to call attention, here soaking in anonymous privacy away from prying eyes, lost in water and wanton relaxation. Not to mention that floating in a bathtub wearing a red cocktail dress must be quite the outlandish personal experience, with many stories to tell.
Wonder Woman’s red boots and red bustier are perhaps as iconic in the realm of super hero comics as Superman’s red cape. As with the Man of Steel and his colourful livery, Wonder Woman’s colours and costume have come to mean more than the mere character representation they were initially intended for. Over time she has come to represent a sort of female power which is not is active circulation as it was in the ancient world as a symbol of awe, which is only fitting considering here roots in Greek myth.
Strength has not been her only weapon and Wonder Woman has always been an intelligent, cunning and very human character, which makes this extremely light-hearted action figure all the more appropriate. Seen here sitting on a bright blue table clock, it’s nice to see that even the fictional demi-Gods have a light day at times.
Right! If anyone ever in the history of the human race deserved the title of ‘Lady in Red’, it would have to be this woman at the annual Burning Man festival. A picture might be worth a thousand words, but I don’t know where to begin about this photo. She’s wearing red, her hair is red, her tights have red stripes, a red heart, and she has a red umbrella hat on! She’s carrying red stuff in the basket of her red-trimmed bicycle, and she’s waving out to us with a red-gloved hand. And what’s with those wood sculpture trees in the backbround? Bizarre! Beautiful.
This is a beautiful shot. There’s the overall mood of the image created with that gorgeous blue cast, and the blown out backgrounds, just giving a hint of street and trees. Then there is focus of the images, the dark red baloons that seem to float towards the viewer with the girl’s face only slightly revealed behind them, with an open smile. Some images are beautiful because they are immortal scenes, and some like this are beautiful because they capture a fleeting moment that can never return.
