A blonde in a red dress is as iconic as it gets, and this fine blonde woman in a classic red dress with heavy skirt and a fitting bodice is even better and more iconic. I’m fairly sure this was taken keeping historical romance novels in mind. Could easily be a cover image.
Speaking of corsets and bodice ripping, the piece worn in this picture is quite nice. Not so loud as to be all in red, this bodice is made of a dark pink fabric, overlaid with white lace, and punctuated by red satin lines which follow the lines of the body and perfectly accentuate all the right curves. This probably will look like a bit much on a red head, but I’d still love to wear that lace corset.
I’m infatuated enough with red colour fashions as it is, and when I come across something as exotic looking as this, I am even more in love. This window of red Indian saris and traditional Indian dresses, all in red, is mind-blowing. The bold colour, the elegant drapery, all seem out of another world. I’ve seen women wearing saris before, on one or two occasions, and have looked it up enough on the internet to want to try these out one day. Like a great dinner dress, I assume carrying one of these off requires a certain amount of confidence and pose from the wearer. Would love to give it a shot one day. Perhaps I need to track down some helpful Indian neighbours, or stalk old Indian college acquaintances on Facebook and ask for Indian fashion advice.
A red cocktail dress is perhaps the very picture of publicity, while a bathtub is most private and personal, and folded within the realms of home and personal comfort. Cocktail dresses are meant to be seen, red ones certainly so, and in our bathtubs we hide and step away from the world with ourselves, only the water to soothe us. The juxtaposition of the two clashing worlds is what makes this image striking, the public face meeting he private face in a dramatically drenched scene. The bright red cocktail dress and the bright red lips on a made up face, usually meant to call attention, here soaking in anonymous privacy away from prying eyes, lost in water and wanton relaxation. Not to mention that floating in a bathtub wearing a red cocktail dress must be quite the outlandish personal experience, with many stories to tell.
The only thing that would get me to ignore a gorgeous red dress like this one would be even better looking red shoes. But that fact that this dress has polka dots just might tip it in its favour. If you were wearing this, who cares about the shoes? Well, ok, I do, but one unneccessary shopping aquisition at a time, thanks!
I love the classic cut of this outfit, which goes perfectly with the polka dot pattern. I think the use of polka dots has been hightly underrated in recent fashions. More power to designers who take the chance.
Whether or not this shot was taken casually, this profile picture of the smiling lady with red feathers in her hair does look casual, and that helps. Add to that the fact that she’s a redhead and also wearing a red dress makes this the red-lovers dream.
