Right! If anyone ever in the history of the human race deserved the title of ‘Lady in Red’, it would have to be this woman at the annual Burning Man festival. A picture might be worth a thousand words, but I don’t know where to begin about this photo. She’s wearing red, her hair is red, her tights have red stripes, a red heart, and she has a red umbrella hat on! She’s carrying red stuff in the basket of her red-trimmed bicycle, and she’s waving out to us with a red-gloved hand. And what’s with those wood sculpture trees in the backbround? Bizarre! Beautiful.

Red is such a common colour in cities and towns that we barely notice it’s there. It takes a close-up snapshot of random views on the street, like this one, to remind us. The colour red is one of the ultimate attention grabbers, which is why it is used so much in advertising, signs, hoardings and warnings. And then there is the use of the colour on the motor ways. Without the red lights and signals and the red brake lights at the back of vehicles, traffic would descend into chaos. So, here’s to red on the road, an important partner in making our cities tick.

The only thing that would get me to ignore a gorgeous red dress like this one would be even better looking red shoes. But that fact that this dress has polka dots just might tip it in its favour. If you were wearing this, who cares about the shoes? Well, ok, I do, but one unneccessary shopping aquisition at a time, thanks!

I love the classic cut of this outfit, which goes perfectly with the polka dot pattern. I think the use of polka dots has been hightly underrated in recent fashions. More power to designers who take the chance.

I’ve seen the Red Bull Air Race when it visited my neck of the wood and this photo is a great capture of the bizarre carnival mood that surrounds the event. Red Bull go all out to brand everything red, as you can see from the red airplane dodging the large inflatable red pylons. Over all a good time is had by all, even if you’re often too far away from the action to get dramatic views such as in this image. Still, it is a fun event, with much enjoyment to be had by all.

Wall Fountain of Red Brick

The rudimentary wall fountain stands inset into a stark white-washed wall. From the look of the mud-red trough into which the water falls, this is probably meant to be a public drinking fountain. I love the quaint practicality of the untreated red bricks and cement that form the archway behind the fountain, and make it so clearly visible against the white wall. I’m sure this is meant to be white-washed like the rest of it, to fit in and look perfect, but there is a beauty in its current imperfect state.
